A CLOSER LOOK

Transparent color, opaque brushstrokes, and the texture of the canvas. These are details from the painting itself.

Then shadow.
Then a face.
This painting began with radiant, opaque colors. Dark transparent paint came next, sculpted back to bring the forms forward.
Ivy continued with layers of transparent and opaque oils, gradually focusing on the nose, cheeks, and eyes. Each pass brought more detail into the face.
